The Ringmaster: cursed curtain call is the 4th room that we have done at this location. The Gastown location was new at the time as they just took over Smarty Pantz’s old space. In this scenario, it’s all about a famous and fascinating ringmaster named Ben Chase. With our friends, we decide to explore his old abandoned childhood house to discover more about his fate. We thought that it was a good scenario with a mysterious goal. The haunted circus theme is getting really popular in escape rooms and will soon become a classic theme!

The decor were nice but again they used the old decors from Smarty Pantz. It was nearly exactly the same. We thought that the flow between the rooms didn’t make sense with the story line. We also didn’t understand why the last room was decorated this way.

For many puzzles in this escape room, we just had to place the right object at the right place which is a bit simple. This is fine if it happens once or twice but it happened too many time in this room. On the other hand, there was one puzzle that we thought was too long to assemble and annoying. It’s also the kind of room that could potentially be harder if english isn’t your first language (which is our case)

For the hints, the game master will enter the room and help us where we are stuck. Which isn’t our favorite way of giving hints.

Overall, it wasn’t our favorite room. The puzzles were disappointing and the decor as well. But if you haven’t been to Smarty pantz before and don’t mind when the puzzles aren’t that original then you might like the room. It can be a bit scary for children but there isn’t any jump-scare. We didn’t like it much but we escaped!
