Mansion Murder was the last room we did that day at Escapology in London. In this scenario, you are about to inherit a vast historic estate—if you can clear your name of murder. You play as Robert Montgomerie, the only remaining direct heir to the Kildermorie Estate and the Montgomerie family fortune. You are attending a family gathering hosted by your grandfather. As the guests raise a toast, a scream suddenly fills the air… and your grandfather is found dead in the library. It looks like murder, and as the direct heir, all suspicion quickly falls on you. Hidden clues may reveal long buried family secrets, but with the police on their way, you will need to gather evidence and piece together the truth to prove your innocence. We really liked the scenario because it is well detailed and believable. We always enjoy a good murder mystery.
The decor was well done, with good attention to detail. Everything was in good shape, although it wasn’t quite as realistic as it could have been. For example, they used wallpaper to represent the library shelves instead of real books. The wallpaper looked great, don’t get me wrong, but it would have felt more realistic with actual objects. The clues and puzzles were well integrated into the decor, and we had a lot of things to examine. We also appreciated the music playing during the game. Before starting, we listened to an audio introduction about the story in the first room.

The puzzles were fun to solve and all connected to the theme and story. There was a mix of traditional locks and automatic mechanisms. There were quite a lot of puzzles, and they weren’t easy, which made the room fairly challenging. The variety was great, and we had to move back and forth between the different rooms to find clues. The room was linear, so we could only work on one puzzle at a time. To get a hint, we pressed a button and the game master would send the hint to a screen.
Overall, we liked the room because the decor was well done and the puzzles were fun and challenging. It’s a family friendly room since it isn’t scary, but the puzzles might be too difficult for younger kids. It’s probably best suited for a group of four people. We were happy that we managed to escape, but we barely had any time left and needed two hints. We liked it and we escaped!
