Hurricane was the first room that we’ve done at this new Exit location in Gastown. They took over Smarty Pantz’s rental space and then reused all the decors that were already there. This is something that I personally find so underwhelming and lazy. It gives the feeling of having done the same room already but we haven’t.

In this scenario, despite being warned about a hurricane category 5 that would pass directly on our cottage, we decide to go anyway with our friends! We wake up in the middle of the night to the roof of the cottage pulled out, huge stones have done great damage to the walls, the power is out and the waves got to the front door. We have to find a way to get the generator running again and call for emergency! This is a great and fun scenario.

The decors were good but again it was the exact same thing as the room by smartypants! We also think that they could have improved it a bit with an actual real window instead of painting it and more detailed stuff. To bring the immersion to another level, they could have added more sound effect. We also noticed that the room was full of dust, it would have deserved a bit of cleaning!

To get a hint, we need to call via the intercom and our game master will come in to help which is something that we don’t like. Might as well only use only the intercom.

The puzzles were mostly manipulation things and mechanical puzzles. Not many puzzles that needed a lot of logic. I think that the room would have benefited of a better balance between the different puzzle mechanisms.

Overall, it’s a good room but we weren’t too impressed either. It’s family friendly and best suited for experienced escape artist. We liked it and we escaped!
