Haunted Manor was the fifth room we did at Lockdown in Red Deer. In this scenario, your group is stranded on a dark and stormy night with nowhere to go. You notice an abandoned manor on top of a hill and decide to check it out. As you explore a room of the manor, suddenly a gust of wind knocks a chair and slams the door. You find out that it’s locked and that there’s a dark presence in the room. Some people have escaped and left information on how they did it. Are we going to find our way out of there? This is a great scenario that is well-detailed and believable.

The decor was well done with a creepy, dark atmosphere and scary music. We wished there were more rooms, though, as it was only 1.5 rooms. There are a few jump scares during the game that you really don’t see coming, making you believe that the room is actually haunted. The only downside is that despite the great music, we could still hear people walking in the hallway, which interrupts the immersion.

The puzzles were fun to solve and well done. It was a mix of traditional locks and automatic mechanisms. The only downside was that one puzzle had two symbols that looked pretty much the same, so it got us confused. The puzzles were all related to the theme. To get hints, the game master came into the room to help, which isn’t our favorite way of giving hints.

Overall, we liked this room as it had great decor and puzzles with a great scary ambiance. In our opinion, this room is too scary for children, and it’s better suited for smaller groups of 2-3 people. We are not too happy with our performance as we escaped with only a few minutes left and asked for 3 hints. We liked it, and we escaped!
