CSI: The Study was the first room we tackled at Jigsaw in Quebec City that evening. In this scenario, we are investigators working on a recent killing that took place in the study of a well-known entrepreneur, the owner of Cromwell Toys, a company famous for its toys and puzzles. As we begin investigating, the door slams shut and we hear a voice saying, “I will be back dealing with you shortly.” Will we be able to solve the crime before he returns? It’s a good basic scenario, but we felt it lacked a unique twist.

The decor was fine but somewhat basic, which is understandable given the office setting. However, they cleverly hidden the door to the second room, and we thought the objects and accessories were well-utilized in the first room. The purpose of the second room wasn’t very clear, and it lacked sufficient accessories. Unfortunately, the service at this location wasn’t great. The game master clearly didn’t want to be there that night and wasn’t very helpful.

The puzzles were fun and most of them were related to the theme and story. It featured only traditional locks, except for the hidden door. We appreciated the variety of logic used, but we wished for a greater variety of locks since most of them were digit locks. This is a non-linear room, allowing us to work on multiple puzzles simultaneously. Hints were provided via walkie-talkie.

Overall, we liked the room okay but believed there was significant room for improvement. It seemed like the owner hadn’t put much effort or thought into this room. It’s a family-friendly room better suited for small groups of 2-3 people. We were happy with our performance, as we completed the room with time to spare and only asked for one hint. We liked it okay and we escape!
