Escape the room
– New York City, New York, USA

The Dig was the third room that we’ve done at Escape the Room in New York. In this scenario, we are a group of excavators that have been called to the deep and harrowing depths of the earth where we are left in the dark in many ways. The website’s description lacks details, a goal, and an explanation of why we start in a room that looks like a church. It mostly just describes what an escape room is and not the story of this specific room.

The decor was well done and quite realistic. We were particularly impressed with the second and third rooms. The first room was a bit more damaged and overused. Additionally, there was a gap between the walls and the ceiling, which affected the immersion. Music was missing in this game, and there were no lockers to store our stuff.

The puzzles were fun and all related to the themes. The balance between traditional locks and automatic mechanisms was great. We think our brains weren’t wired to solve these puzzles, as we had to ask for too many hints. We felt that the puzzles were a bit random at first, mostly just having to place things on the correct place. It got better in the second and third room with more logic and multiple steps puzzles. The game master was providing hints on a screen.

Overall, this is a fun room with great decor and good puzzles! It’s a family-friendly room and better suited for groups of 2-3 people. We are not happy with our performance because we asked for too many hints, but we did complete the room with some time left. We liked it and we escaped!
