Special Ops: Mysterious Market was the last room we attempted that evening at The Escape Game. In this scenario, we are spies searching a spice market. We end up having to combat an international crisis that threatens the world as we know it. We have to harness all our tactical skills and training to put a stop to this crisis. We liked the scenario, especially the unique spice market setting. We’ve never experienced this theme or decor before. However, I felt that the goal and story were missing some details and didn’t offer anything new beyond the spice market starting point.
The decor was amazing, as we are used to seeing at The Escape Game. Their attention to detail and finishing touches are next level. We especially liked the spice market, so when the style of the decor changed, we were a bit sad. But we understand that it follows the story. The game is a little dark, and instead of giving us the flashlights right away, we had to find them, which we thought was a good idea. We also really enjoyed the music playing during the game. Upon entering the room, we had to listen to a video explaining the rules and story.

The puzzles were fun to solve and all related to the theme. It’s mostly automatic mechanisms with a few traditional locks and manipulation puzzles. We were really impressed with the technology used, especially in the last room. It’s a non-linear room, so we could work on multiple things at the same time. Most puzzles in this room have more than one step and are fairly difficult. The hints are given on a screen after pressing a button.
Overall, we loved this room because the theme was original, the decor was perfect, and the puzzles were difficult and fun! It’s a family-friendly room better suited for groups of four. We were happy with our performance, as we completed the room with some time to spare, though we asked for three hints. We loved it and we escaped!
