The School of Wizardry was the first room we did at Escape Emporium. In this scenario, our first lesson at the School of Wizardry is to find all the magic items to defeat the dark lord. There are a few more details on the website, but it’s essentially that. We think it’s missing a bit of a unique twist and more details.

The decor was nice with many accessories that reminded us of Harry Potter. We liked that there were multiple rooms and music playing throughout the game. However, if we opened the curtains, we could see right outside, which isn’t great for the immersion. We also didn’t like that there weren’t any lockers to keep our stuff in while playing the game.

The puzzles were fun but a little redundant. We thought there were too many things that simply needed to be opened or activated with a magic wand. We also had one of our biggest laughs as we weren’t sure if we completed the room or not, so we had to go ask the game master outside the room. It was only automatic mechanisms and manipulation puzzles. The hints were given on a screen after showing a piece of cardboard saying “hint” to the camera. It’s not our favorite way of giving hints, but it works fine.

Overall, it’s a fun room with nice decor, but the puzzles need to be more varied. The room is perfect for kids and for smaller groups of 2-3 people. We are happy with our performance as we finished with a lot of time to spare and only asked for one hint. We liked it and we escaped!
