Once Upon a Time at Sunnyside was the last room we attempted at Défi Évasion in Québec City. In this scenario, we are Eliot Cooper, a lone cowboy traveling from town to town to escape his debts. We arrive in Sunnyside, and our luck might have turned. We meet Kenneth Browning, who offers us an easy job to solve our money problems. But is stealing a bank really that easy? We liked the scenario as it was well-detailed and had a clear goal!

The decor was great and realistic! We appreciated that the flow of the room matched the storyline perfectly. The game master played a character related to the story from the beginning to the end of the game. We also liked that the outside part of the door was decorated.

The puzzles were fun to solve, related to the theme, and just challenging enough. They cleverly connected the puzzles to the storyline; it was brilliant. The balance between traditional locks and automatic mechanisms was great. The game master provided hints by coming into the room in character. He would come in randomly, so we never had to ask for him. This was funny and the perfect way of giving hints.

Overall, we loved this room because the puzzles were fun and the immersion was spot on. It’s a family-friendly room better suited for groups of four. We were happy with our performance, as we completed the room with some time to spare and only asked for two hints. We loved it and we escaped!
