New Haven orphanage was the fifth room we played that day at Confundrum in Burlington. In this scenario, the cold case known as the “New Haven Orphanage Disappearances” has haunted the town of Havenport for years. The mysterious vanishing of the children who once lived there is rumored to be the work of a demonic force. As up and coming police officers, you have been assigned to finally solve the case. Will you uncover the truth, or will you become the next to disappear? We really liked the scenario, especially because the orphanage setting is very unique and original. It is well detailed and has a clear objective.
The décor was truly outstanding. The realism and attention to detail were next level. Each room had a clear purpose and fit perfectly within the story. We were genuinely impressed by the quality of the set design. It was extremely creative, and the execution felt polished and immersive. We also liked that we could choose the level of scariness. You can play the basic version with no actors or jump scares, or include the full horror experience. The game master explained what would have happened with the actors involved, and it sounded terrifying. There was a small gap between the walls and ceiling, but it was fairly well hidden. The background music added a lot to the atmosphere and helped build tension.

The puzzles were fun to solve and closely connected to the theme and story. As we progressed, the puzzles helped reveal more about what had happened in the story, which we really appreciated. There was a mix of traditional locks and automatic mechanisms. The difficulty level felt well balanced, with some puzzles more challenging than others. The only thing we did not love was that the puzzles in the first room were numbered to indicate the order in which to solve them. While it helps with flow, it makes the room a bit too predictable. The room shifts between partially linear and non linear sections depending on where you are in the game. Hints were provided via walkie talkie, which worked well.
Overall, we absolutely loved this game. The realism of the décor truly stood out, and the puzzles were just as impressive. Horror rooms are rarely our favorites, but this one is definitely an exception. We highly recommend it. With actors and jump scares included, it becomes very intense, but without them it is still thrilling without being overwhelming. It is best suited for groups of 4 people. We were happy with our performance since we finished with time to spare and only needed one hint. We loved it and we escaped!
