Outbreak was the first room we played that day at Room Escape Ottawa. In this scenario, the Z-Virus has turned the human race into hordes of walking undead, and a small group of survivors has come together to search for a cure in a long-abandoned laboratory. Unfortunately, the last working satellite allows only one hour to transfer the cure data before their lifeline is completely severed. We thought that the scenario was fine but missing a unique twist and it could have been more detailed.

The decors were well done and quite realistic. We were especially impressed by the way the transition from room 2 to room 3 was handled—it was very unique and worked perfectly with the theme. They also used a special effect for one of the puzzles that was brilliant and made the story even more believable. The attention to detail and overall execution of the decor were excellent, and everything looked almost brand new. We thought that the team behind these decors was very creative and meticulous. We also really enjoyed the music playing throughout the game.

The puzzles were fun to solve and all clearly tied to the theme and story. There was a great balance between traditional locks, automatic mechanisms, and manipulation puzzles. We loved the variety of logic, and a few puzzles genuinely impressed us with how unique and clever they were. The difficulty level was just right. The room is linear, meaning we could only work on one puzzle at a time. Hints were given by the game master via walkie-talkie.

Overall, we really liked this room. The decor was great, but the puzzles were the real highlight—fun, original, and thoughtfully designed. The room isn’t truly scary, though it could be a bit intense for younger kids. We think it’s best suited for groups of 2–3 people. We’re happy with our performance, as we completed the room with time to spare and only needed one hint. We liked it—and we escaped!
