Unmask was the second room we completed at Freeing Canada Station in Richmond Hill. In this scenario, our roommate from the biology postgraduate program went missing a couple of years ago. The last we heard from him, he was heading to the professor’s study room. Rumors suggested that professors were conducting experiments using stem cells to combine human and animal genes. The case went cold, but with the anniversary approaching, we decided to do our own investigation, starting with the professor’s study room. We have 60 minutes before the professor returns. As we step into the study, the door locks behind us, and we have to find our way out ASAP! We liked the scenario because it’s well detailed and has a clear goal.
The decor was well done and in good condition. The door between the two rooms was well hidden. The only downside was that the rooms were fairly empty, with very little accessories other than the items needed to solve the puzzles. This made it easier to find clues. The ambiance was a bit creepy, with one jump scare, but overall it’s not very scary for adults. We also enjoyed the music playing during the game.

The puzzles were fun to solve and varied, all related to the theme. There weren’t many puzzles, and most were one-step and fairly easy to solve (except the last one). It was mostly traditional locks with a couple of automatic mechanisms. It’s a linear room, meaning we could only work on one puzzle at a time. The game master would come into the room to give us a hint.
Overall, we liked the room, but we were hoping for more and harder puzzles in general! It can be slightly scary for kids and is better suited for smaller groups of 2-3 people. We are happy with our performance as we completed the room with a good time and only asked for one hint! We liked it and we escaped!
