Défendu was the third room we did that day at Exode Évasion in Québec City! In this scenario, we had always avoided exploring the old cabin in the backyard—until the day our grandmother changed completely, becoming catatonic as her health deteriorated. One day, she uttered the word “forbidden,” which we knew meant it was time to enter that cabin! We liked the scenario because it was well-detailed and mysterious.
The decor was well done and incredibly creepy. As always, Exode paid great attention to detail, and everything looked brand new. The space is huge, with multiple rooms to explore. The only downside for us was the inclusion of a circus element, which felt out of place. It didn’t quite match the storyline and made the experience feel a bit disjointed. There was also a malfunction with one door that allowed us to access the last room too early, causing us to waste some time. Despite this, the scary and creepy atmosphere was highly effective.

The puzzles were fun to solve and all related to the theme. There were plenty of puzzles, many of which were fairly complicated, but we always enjoy a challenge. The balance between traditional locks and automatic mechanisms was perfect. To get hints, we contacted the game master by phone, and they responded while impersonating a character related to the theme.
Overall, we liked the room, but it isn’t our favorite among all the rooms at Exode Québec. This room is too creepy for children, but teenagers might enjoy it. It’s better suited for larger groups of 4-6 people. We weren’t entirely happy with our performance, as we needed an extra 4 minutes to complete the room. We liked it, but we didn’t escape!
