The Crazy Cat Lady was the fourth room we did that day at Défi Évasion in Québec City. In this scenario, we are young kids from elementary school playing catch. Everything is going well until the ball smashes through a neighbor’s window. She’s a grumpy, eccentric woman who will surely know you’re guilty of this act of vandalism. Fortunately, you know she’s out walking one of her cats, giving you one hour to find a way in, retrieve the ball, and clean up the evidence. We loved the scenario because it’s unique, fun, and well-detailed with a clear goal.

The decor was cute and well done. It’s a multi-room escape game, but two of the three rooms are quite small and don’t have many puzzles. However, their website mentions that the game is designed for a maximum of four players and is intended for beginners, which explains the room sizes and the number of puzzles. We just wished it was more developed since the story is so cute and funny!

The puzzles were fun to solve and all related to the theme. They were fairly easy but well thought out, with a mix of traditional locks and automatic mechanisms. It’s a non-linear room, so we could work on multiple things simultaneously. The game master was amazing during this game, welcoming us in character, which was brilliant. Hints were given via a walkie-talkie, with the game master responding as his character.

Overall, we liked the room because the puzzles were fun, but we wished it had been a bit more challenging and larger. It’s the perfect room for families, beginners, and small groups of 2-3. We’re happy with our performance, as we completed the room with plenty of time to spare and didn’t ask for any hints. We enjoyed it and we escaped!
