Catacombs: The Hidden Passage was the second room we did at Mind Hack Room Escape in Halifax. In this scenario, we are invited to embark on a journey to discover the catacombs in Paris. The scenario on the website is really vague and missing details. We wished it was more precise and had a clear goal.

The decors were really well done and quite realistic. There were many rooms, and they were all huge, each with a specific and clear purpose. With a bigger budget, they could have used actual stones for the walls instead of wallpaper, but that’s just a minor detail. The decors weren’t what we expected based on the scenario, and we felt they didn’t match the story perfectly. We liked that the outside of the door was decorated, but the music was missing, which could have enhanced the atmosphere.

The puzzles were mostly about placing things in the right place and following steps. It was all automatic mechanisms and we thought that the clues were cleverly hidden in the rooms. There weren’t any multi-step puzzles or codes to look for, which seems to be a new style of escape room that we’re personally not fans of. However, we have to admit that it was well done for this style. Hints were given on a screen in the room.

Overall, this isn’t our favorite room simply because we’re not fans of these types of puzzles. But if you prefer this style of escape room, it is really well done, and you will likely enjoy it! The room is family-friendly and better suited for 2-3 people. We are happy with our performance as we completed the room with time to spare and only asked for one hint. We liked it and we escaped!
