Funeral Parlor was the first room we did at Mind Back Room Escape in Halifax. In this scenario, our mission is to piece together the truth behind the arrest of Northcutt Funeral Home’s owner, who is accused of theft, unlawful preservation, and murder. The scenario on the website is mostly a description of an escape room with a mention of the theme. I personally prefer when it’s a story.

The decor was nice and well done, but we thought they could have worked on finishing touches. However, they had very good ideas, and the decors were believable. The door to the third room opened too early by accident, so the game master had to close it. Luckily, he could do that without entering the room. The only thing missing in this escape room was music.

The puzzles were fun to solve and were all related to the theme. It was non-linear, so we were able to work on multiple things at the same time. It was mostly traditional locks and a few automatic mechanisms. We would find clues randomly in the room and some would only be used in the next room. We prefer that way of hiding clues as it makes things more challenging! The hints were given on a screen. The game master would help us when he felt we were behind and also when we would ask for it.

Overall, we liked this room because the scenario was unique, the puzzles were fun, and the decor was believable! It’s slightly creepy, so it’s not suitable for kids. There are a lot of puzzles to solve, and for that reason, we think a group of 4 people is ideal. We are not that happy with our performance as we finished with just a couple of minutes left and asked for a few hints. We loved it, and we escaped!
