Master of Elements was the second room we did that evening at Exit Richmond. In this scenario, in a realm divided among elemental nations, a recurring tempest announces the emergence of a prophesied master of all elements. Exploiting the turmoil, Fire Lord Iazo aggressively expands his dominion. As the enigmatic master’s identity remains elusive, a web of intrigue and power struggles ensnares the realms, shaping their uncertain destiny.

We thought that the scenario wasn’t clear at all and there weren’t any specific goals. The decor was the same as their previous room called Atlantis, so we were very disappointed. The decor was nice but lacked the element of surprise and looked overused. Additionally, they placed a bunch of stickers saying “Do Not Touch,” which hurt the immersion. We didn’t like our game master as he just dropped us off in the room without explaining the story.

The puzzles were also a bit disappointing as some were the same as in the Atlantis room. However, there was a nice variety of logic puzzles, and some were clever. The balance between automatic mechanisms and traditional locks was great. The hints were given using an iPad and a QR code system. Some hints weren’t useful at all and they would offer the solution too quickly.

Overall, this isn’t our favorite room because they reused the decor and the puzzles were inconsistent. It’s not scary, so it’s family-friendly, and it’s better suited for groups of 3-4 people. We are not happy with our performance as we needed a couple of extra minutes to finish and asked for 2 hints. We liked it okay, and we almost escaped in time!
