We went to Sherlock Escape Rooms in January 2023 and tried Sherlock: The Official Live Game, which was created by the team behind the BBC’s popular Sherlock Holmes TV series. The whole experience is advertised as about 1h45min, but the actual escape room is 60 minutes—the rest is time spent waiting, visiting the speakeasy, and taking pictures with props. A highlight was the videos featuring the actors from the show, which added a very cool touch for fans.
The set design throughout the experience, from the entrance to the speakeasy and Sherlock’s office, was impressive and immersive. The décor inside the actual escape room was good as well, though a little simpler compared to the other areas. The second room stood out with some fun use of technology, which we really enjoyed.
The puzzles, however, were disappointing. Many of them felt too obvious or overly straightforward—often with the codes written out somewhere or with very little deduction needed. Considering it was a Sherlock Holmes-themed escape room, we expected more challenging and clever puzzles that would make us work harder to solve them.
Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere, the high-quality videos, and the attention to detail in the décor, but the escape room itself didn’t quite live up to the Sherlock name. The speakeasy and extra photo opportunities felt unnecessary padding. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll likely have a fun time, but if you’re simply looking for a top-notch escape room, there are better options elsewhere.
