The Wizard Four and the Rise of Lord Thulsa was the second room we played that day at Escaparium in Montreal. In this scenario, it has been two years since you saved Miss Fellwick from Lord Thulsa’s enchantment, and you have since become some of the most powerful wizards in the land. When new information about Lord Thulsa’s whereabouts suddenly emerges, you and the rest of the Wizard Four must act quickly to confront him once again. The scenario is well written and easy to follow, although we felt it could have benefited from more detail and a more unique twist.

The decor was beautiful and highly realistic. The transition between the first two rooms was especially surprising and very well executed. As always with Escaparium Montreal, the creativity and attention to detail were outstanding. Every room had a very clear purpose and was filled with objects and decorative elements that made the environment feel believable and immersive. One thing we found a little strange, however, was that players had to walk through the first room of their Alice in Wonderland game in order to reach this room. In our opinion, this spoiled part of the surprise for the Alice room, which felt like an odd design choice. We also enjoyed the background music throughout the game, and overall the immersion was very successful.

The puzzles were fun and well connected to the theme and story. The room relied mostly on automated mechanisms, and since it was non-linear, we could work on multiple puzzles at the same time. However, we felt there were not enough puzzles overall, which made the experience feel slightly underwhelming. The puzzles were not especially difficult either, though they still offered a satisfying level of challenge. We were hoping for a greater quantity of puzzles and slightly more complexity. We were also a bit disappointed with the game introduction given by the game master, as it felt rushed and unclear. Hints were provided by the game master through a walkie-talkie system.

Overall, we enjoyed the room, although it is not one of our favorites at this location. The decor was extremely well done, but we think the puzzle design could be improved. It is a family-friendly experience that works best for groups of two to three players. We were happy with our performance, as we completed the room fairly quickly and only needed two hints. We liked it and we escaped!
