Merlin’s Sanctum was the last room we did that evening at Labyrinth Escape Games in Aurora. In this scenario, our team of adventurers has stumbled upon the ancient sanctum of the legendary wizard Merlin! He has gathered many treasures and is offering the chance to claim the most powerful artifact of all — Excalibur! Will we be able to get past the traps guarding his prized possession? The scenario was fine, with a clear goal, though it might be missing a unique twist.
The decor was okay, but we weren’t that impressed, unfortunately. It looked a bit worn out, and most rooms felt kind of empty. We didn’t feel like it matched the story very well. The game starts with the group separated into two rooms, which was a fun touch, and we did enjoy the background music throughout the experience.

The puzzles were decent, though we felt there weren’t enough of them. Most were on the easier side, except for one that required a lot of searching—which isn’t our strength. Everything tied into the story, and the room mostly featured traditional locks with a few automatic mechanisms. It’s a linear room, meaning we could only work on one puzzle at a time. To ask for hints, we had to press a button near the entrance, and the game master would call us back on our cell phone to help.
Overall, we liked the room but could tell it was probably one of their earlier creations. There’s definitely potential, and it could easily be improved. The room is family friendly and better suited for smaller groups of 2-3 people. We were happy with our performance—we completed the room quickly but asked for two hints. We liked it okay… and we escaped!
