The Extraction was the second room we played that day at Crypto Escape Room in Newmarket! In this scenario, a secret intelligence agency hijacks your elevator and recruits your group of civilians for a dangerous mission. You’re sent deep underground to infiltrate the labs of an evil weapons corporation making deadly advances that could threaten humanity. Your task: grab the intel and get out undetected. We liked the classic spy story with the clever elevator twist — it was well-detailed and had a clear goal.

The set design was absolutely stunning. Every space looked realistic and polished, with impeccable attention to detail and no signs of wear. We especially loved that even the areas outside the rooms were decorated to match each theme — it really elevated the immersion. The motion effect in the first room was a highlight; it added an unexpected and impressive layer of realism. There was a fair bit of storytelling throughout, which seems to be part of Crypto’s signature style. While well-produced, we personally found it a bit disruptive to the flow of the game. We also felt that the overall visual tone of this room was a little too similar to Below Zero, another one of their rooms, but the music and ambiance were both spot-on.

The puzzles were logical, satisfying, and all related to the theme. It was all automatic mechanisms and they were all functioning properly. It’s a linear experience, so you tackle one puzzle at a time, but each challenge was clever and just the right level of difficulty. The hint system worked well — you could press a button to receive a clue on a screen or use the walkie-talkie for additional help if needed.

Overall, we really enjoyed this escape room! The moving elevator element was a fantastic touch, and the set design and atmosphere were top-notch. The puzzles were fun and cohesive, though we wished for fewer story interruptions to keep the momentum going. It’s a family-friendly room, best suited for groups of up to 4 players. We are happy with our performance because we completed the mission quickly and used only one hint! We liked it and we escaped!
