The Gate was the third room we did at Perplexity Escape Games in Brampton. In this scenario, we are demonologists, and the recent disappearance of our colleague Julianna could be the first credible sign that demons walk among us. We are terrified of what we will find. She had always talked about being haunted as a child by a demon called the Beast, and in the days leading up to her disappearance, she was convinced that the Beast was back. It’s now our turn to investigate what Julianna left behind and put an end to the Beast. We liked the scenario because it’s well-detailed, mysterious, and has a clear goal!

The decor was well done in general, although both rooms were quite small. They did a great job of creating a creepy and unsettling atmosphere, and we thought the timer was unique and matched the theme. The flow of the rooms made sense with the story and we were particularly impressed by the decor of the second room. We also enjoyed the music playing during the game.

The puzzles were fun to solve and all related to the theme and story. It was a mix of traditional locks and automatic mechanisms. It’s a linear room, meaning we could only work on one puzzle at a time. They did a great job connecting the story, puzzles and decor together. The level of difficulty is fairly high for certain puzzles so experienced escape artists will enjoy the challenge. We could ask for hints by calling the game master using a phone.

Overall, we enjoyed the room because the puzzles and decor were great. It’s not the scariest room, but it’s probably too intense for kids. It’s better suited for small groups of 2-3 people. We are happy with our performance because we completed the room with time to spare and asked for one hint. We liked it, and we escaped!
