We continue our evening with Hooked at Escape Manor Hintonburg in Ottawa. In this scenario, it’s 1737, and you are amateur pirates sailing through the Caribbean. You plunder the rich to fill your pockets. However, the fearsome Captain Lock has been watching you, and you wake up in his ship’s hold. You are now without treasure and must find a way out, or else you’ll walk the plank at midnight! I hope you enjoyed your pirate life while it lasted. Before starting the escape game, the game master tells you the story. The scenario is typical for a pirate theme, and it’s missing a unique twist. However, the goal is clear.

The decor is very beautiful, and there are many details that are truly realistic. However, there is one element we were unsure about if it really fit the theme. One downside to this room is that there is no music, and we could hear the sounds from other rooms, including screams from their horror-themed room. We also didn’t like having to bring our personal belongings into the room and put them on the floor. Unfortunately, all this affected the immersion negatively.

The puzzles aren’t too difficult and all related to the theme. There were many puzzles, and it was non-linear so we could work on several at the same time. There are lots of locks, but there are also a few automatic puzzles. The hints are provided via walkie-talkie, without any character being played by the game master.

Overall, we are liked the room okay because the puzzles were fun and the decor we fine but it’s not our favorite. This is a great room for families with children and small groups of 2-3 people. We are satisfied with our performance, as we completed it in good time, only asking for 1 hint. We liked it okay, and we escaped!
