Distress Signal was the first room we attempted at Captured in Halifax. In this scenario, we are enjoying a beautiful day at sea during our dream vacation when the weather suddenly takes a turn for the worse. Our boat hits a reef, causing a huge leak. We search for help through the jungle and come across the site of an old plane crash. The plane is too damaged to fly, but it might help us find another way home! We liked the scenario, although it doesn’t explain how we ended up from the ocean to the jungle. Otherwise, it’s well written and has a clear goal!

The decor was really impressive and well done. There’s one large piece (not really furniture, but I don’t want to give any spoilers) that completely blew us away. It was a big room cleverly divided into three smaller rooms. Some climbing and crawling are needed, but once you are in the second room, you have access to a door that makes traveling between the rooms easier. The flow of the rooms matched the storyline. We also liked that our game master could tell us the story from memory and that the outside part of the door was decorated.

The puzzles were fun and well thought out, matching the theme perfectly. The flow between the puzzles followed the storyline. It was mostly manipulation puzzles with a few traditional locks and automatic mechanisms. Some of the puzzles were one-step puzzles and story/task-oriented. The hints were given on a screen.

Overall, we liked the room because the decor was impressive and the puzzles were fun! It’s a family-friendly room better suited for groups of 2-3 people. We were happy with our performance, as we completed the room with time to spare and only asked for two hints. We liked it and we escaped!
