The Case of the Missing Thief was the first room we did at PEI Escape Room. As the first non-profit escape room in the world, all profits from this establishment go to the Voluntary Resource Council, a registered charity in Charlottetown—a brilliant and commendable initiative. However, this also means they probably don’t have the biggest budget for their rooms, and we were told that they had many limitations with room layouts.

In this scenario, we are investigators working on a stolen necklace case. We find the hideout of the thief, and our mission is to retrieve the necklace and get out. The scenario is a bit basic, but it has a clear goal.

The decor was basic but creative considering the small space and budget they have. It’s unfortunately just one room because they aren’t allowed to add any doors to connect rooms together. However, I’m sure they could improve the immersion with some background music and work on the decor.

The puzzles were fun to solve and well done! It was mostly traditional locks and it was non-linear. The only downside was that a few answers were basically just given instead of having to solve something. We can tell that they are creative and there’s great potential though. To get a hint, you need to press a button, and the game master would come into the room to help.

Overall, it’s a nice basic room with a lot of potential and fun puzzles. It’s not scary at all, and the puzzles are easy, so it’s the perfect room for kids. It’s better suited for smaller groups of 2-3 people. We are happy with our performance as we completed the room quickly without asking for any hints. We liked it, and we escaped!
