The cursed lovers of Saint-Laurent was the first room we played that day at Échappe-Toi in Montréal! In this scenario, we are archaeologists searching for the treasure of Eric and Maria Cobham, two famous pirates who built their fortune along the St. Lawrence River. We have to be quick, because their descendants are after the treasure as well! It’s a classic pirate theme, but we really liked the local twist of tying it to the St. Lawrence River. The scenario is also well presented on the website with lots of useful information.

The décor was beautiful and very well done! The rooms were small, but the space was used efficiently. The attention to detail and finishing touches were spot on, and some elements were unique—things we had never seen before! The boat itself could have been a bit more realistic, but that’s only a minor detail. We also enjoyed the music playing during the game, though we could still hear noise from outside the room despite the soundtrack.

The puzzles were all tied nicely to the theme and fun to solve! There was a good mix of traditional locks, automatic mechanisms, and a few manipulation games. Some puzzles were more challenging, but most leaned on the easier side. We appreciated the variety of logic types, and the clues were smartly distributed between the rooms. Hints were given through a stuffed parrot that we placed strategically in each space. We were allowed one hint for every five minutes, and the parrot would provide a prerecorded clue. If we needed extra help, we could call out to the game master, who replied through audio.

Overall, we really enjoyed this room for its great décor and fun puzzles! It’s family friendly and best suited for smaller groups of 2–3 players. We were happy with our performance, completing the room in good time with only two hints. We liked it—and we escaped!
