The Quest for Excalibur was the first room we tackled that evening! In this scenario, Merlin has been missing, so King Arthur has commanded us to retrieve the legendary sword Excalibur from Merlin’s lair. We have 60 minutes to break into Merlin’s lair and pull the sword before the evil sorceress Morgan arrives. We liked the scenario; it may seem a bit simple and lacking in details, but the goal is clear and believable.

The decor was nice but a bit basic. We couldn’t tell the purpose of each room. It looked more like the rooms were decorated in a medieval theme. Additionally, the room was located near the entrance of the business, and we could hear other customers very loudly, which affected the immersion.

The puzzles were fun to solve and all related to the theme. There was a nice variety of logic puzzles, and they were just challenging enough! It wasn’t linear, which is what we prefer. The balance between traditional locks and automatic mechanisms was good. We didn’t like the way hints were given, as the game master would just enter the room to help us.

Overall, we liked the puzzles, but we were not too impressed with the decor. It’s definitely family-friendly and better suited for groups of 2-3 people. We are happy with our performance as we finished with some time to spare and only asked for one hint. We liked it okay, and we escaped!
