Survival of the Fittest was the first room we tried at Twisted Escape Room in Toronto! In this scenario, you wake up in an abandoned warehouse after being kidnapped by a serial killer who believes only the smartest deserve to shape humanity’s future. After discovering we’d been injected with poison, we had one hour to find the antidote and escape. We liked this classic setup because it gives you a clear goal, though we felt it could use a unique twist to make it stand out more.

The décor was fine but definitely on the basic side. They had some good ideas and it did resemble a warehouse, but something was missing. There was a noticeable gap between the wall and ceiling, so we could hear every sound from outside the room, which broke the immersion. It also looked a bit like a collection of random objects placed together to fill the space rather than a coherent environment. Adding music or ambient sound would have helped a lot, but sadly there wasn’t any.

The puzzles were fun to solve, but most of them weren’t really connected to the theme or story—we wished for a stronger narrative link, as some of the puzzles felt a little random. The room used traditional locks and manipulation puzzles, and it was mostly linear. The difficulty range went from easy to more advanced, and while the variety was great and the flow worked well, a few puzzles felt a bit too predictable in their logic. Despite that, two puzzles were genuinely unique and memorable, and we still talk about them today! Hints were given via walkie-talkie.

Overall, we liked this room okay, but we had higher expectations. The foundation is there, and with a few adjustments it could be much stronger. It’s a family-friendly room and best suited for small groups of 2–3 people. We’re happy with our performance—we finished quickly and didn’t need any hints. We liked it okay, and we escaped!
